I came to this website thinking it was all ex JWs like myself. There would be support and like minded thinking since we all shared the same experiences.

I know all too well how Jehovahs Witnesses think . As a rule, I do not want to get into any discussions with them , because no matter how well articulated or reasonable an argument I can make---to them, it will ALWAYS be wrong.

However, it is a free world and a free website---if they are here--what possible harm could they do? To me, nothing.

I say, let them come, they might get lucky and actually learn something.

what is the current thinking of the watchtower society concernng higher education these days?

in 1977 i entered college from a full pioneer status and was duly criticized from the local elders.

back at that time, higher education was actively discouraged.

What is the current thinking of the Watchtower Society concernng Higher Education these days? In 1977 I entered college from a full pioneer status and was duly criticized from the local Elders. Back at that time, higher education was actively discouraged. I eventually left the religion. I am curious to know what the current WTBTS thinking is on this subject, and how many ex JWs out there did not pursue Higher education as a result of Watchtower discouragement?

when you travel to other cities, do you find that women or men look nicer or more sexy than in your home town?

maybe it's because we see new butts faces, that give this illusion.. so, is the grass greener elsewhere?

have you been to the latest sermon/mass/meeting?

I don't get pissed off when people ask me those questions. Usually, it comes during a religious philosophical discussion and my JW history is explained. People are usually interested to hear exactly what it is that JWs believe. They are usually interested once it has been established that you are no longer " a member of the faith" thus they know and understand that you are not "preaching to them."

When less intimate friends ask me about my religion, I tell them with a very straight face that I worship the Greek and Roman Gods, and am having so much fun practicing paganism, that the idolatry and fornication is so...mind expanding. Its usually good for a chuckle.

Mental health issues

how many of you have experienced or are experiencing any mental health related issues?

were/are any of these issues related to you being a jw?

do you feel many dubs still in "the truth" have mental health issues but are afraid to seek treatment from a "worldly" psychologist or psychiatrist?.

Hey Yellow lab.

Yes, I was in therapy for two years after I left Jws. I was diagnosed with depression, but refused any drugs. I did work it all out eventually. That was 20 years ago. Best thing I ever did.

Having been raised as a JW, and suddenly losing my entire support network,I went through what was diagnosed as "culture shock" and had to be "deprogramed". Sounds funny, but the depression was very real and very scary. It is all traced back to that religion. Therapy worked for me. When I made new friends on the outside and had new non JW experiences and got into a life routine "back in the real worl" so to speak, my life took on an even keel.
